True wine fans know that much of the fun with drinking wine is exploring and trying new ones. H-E-B makes it a point to have reoccurring customer favorites available on shelves, but the familiar team in red are always in the field sourcing new vintages for us to know and love as well. Autumn is an awesome time for wines at H-E-B!
billhook is a really nice white wine blend out of Santa Barbara County. It’s a domestic wine, but the varietals in the mix are like something you’d see in France…elegant and refined. You’ll taste pear, apple and fig flavors in this easy going offering that’s great with seafood. Not super sweet, but bordering on the fruity side and supremely aromatic for under $20!
A lighter suggestion for someone who may be just getting into red wine, this Pinot Noir by Villa Mt Eden has nice strawberry, cherry flavors with a hint of tamarind on the finish. Oh wow! This is a great Sonoma wine to pair with salmon or duck for around $25.
Our final pick is the Col D’Orcia from Rosso Di Montalcino wines. This vintage is aged for a period of one year and a steal at around $20. Discover red fruit flavors and hints of spice on the finish. This guy is prime for pizza, lasagna…perhaps some chicken parmesan. I like to think of the Rosso as similar to a baby Brunello.
And considering all things Italian…get ready for H-E-B’s big Ciao Italia promotional event, going on this month at your neighborhood store. You’ll encounter some great Italian wines featured in Cooking Connection, as well as their Primo Picks kitchen. As always, when you buy 6 or more bottles — 1.5 liters, sparklings AND even those bottles already on-sale — you can mix and match for a 10% discount on your total purchase!
