I’ve interviewed tons of TV personalities over the years – some impressed me, others disappointed me. Lidia Bastianich is an impeccable pro! The warm, enthusiastic, passionate ‘Lidia’ you see on PBS is the exact person who came to my house Sunday to shoot a cooking segment. I answered the ring at my door and felt like I was greeting an old friend.
She was incredibly warm and friendly, and her passion for Italy and its amazing food were contagious.
What I thought would be a quick half-hour shoot turned into almost two hours of wonderful material. She prepared a delicious chicken dish (I’ll give you the recipe soon) and a scrumptious dessert. She also talked about Italian olive oils, how they differ, varieties of olives and how to buy them and Italian wine regions! Wow!! I learned a lot.
For those of you who know me well, you know I believe this ‘journey’ in to the fascinating world of wine and food was destined to be. I have to tell you … standing in my kitchen cooking with Lidia was surreal. I wonder if she noticed the glint in my eye as I was silently thanking God for being so incredibly good!
