I’ve got good news for wine fans and maybe even diabetes patients. More and more research is showing that a glass of wine a day is actually a positive for your health!
The latest study out of Israel has doctors looking at the relationship between diabetes, specifically Type 2 diabetes, and alcohol. Research shows that a glass of wine – red or white – combined with a healthy diet like that of the Mediterranean diet can help Type 2 diabetes patients.
Those patients that participated in the study and consumed the aforementioned combo daily saw decreased risk factors for heart disease, while increased levels of HDL cholesterol (the good cholesterol).
The study also determined that wine drinkers who consume moderate amounts of wine are less likely to develop Type 2 diabetes than those who abstain from alcohol altogether. Fascinating stuff!
