Who doesn’t love a vacation in their own backyard! This hidden gem is just a day trip away by car; a beautiful setting to totally decompress, because this place has it all…
The Fredericksburg Herb Farm sits on 3.5 acres and has recently undergone a revitalization, featuring a new spa facility (Nature’s Spa), an expanded restaurant with a new garden bar (The Farm Haus Bistro) and, perhaps most impressive, the addition of the Sunday Haus Cottages.
The owner of this secluded lodging, Richard Estenson, played tour guide for Goodtaste as we soaked up some history (and a little shade) in this quiet Hill Country hamlet, only four blocks from the popular Main Street shopping district. The Herb Farm is a feast for your senses from nearly every vantage point. Gorgeous gardens…the spa with its variety of herbal infused and organic products. This is truly a place to find some peace and tranquility.
The Farm Haus Bistro on-site was originally erected in the 1890s, but everything else is brand new. The Sunday houses of the early German settlers in Fredericksburg have been replicated for a total now of 14 on the farm! In the old days, families lived on land outside of town and farmed all during the week. On weekends, they would migrate into town for church services or to restock on supplies, and stay at these small ‘Sunday’ cottages. Eventually these small dwellings side-by-side became a little village all unto themselves.
