If you want to stay ahead of the popular trends when it comes to party treats like cupcakes and macaroons, take a peak inside the pastry kitchens at The Houstonian. Pastry Chef Catherine Rodriguez is quite the master. And, look no further for the perfect Mother’s Day treat.
Chef Catherine was creating colorful macaroons for The Houstonian’s elaborate parties well before the rest of us got wind of the trend. Her elegant Cointreau Tea Cakes were all the rage this fall. And now, wait till you see the beautiful éclairs she’s making for Mother’s Day celebrations at The Houstonian!
The chef says she was inspired on a recent trip to France where she attended the Coupe du Monde—the pastry Olympics. While not watching the competition, Catherine tells me she visited pastry shops all over Paris and left inspired to create these beautiful éclairs you see in the picture.
These gorgeous pastries would be the stars of anyone’s Mother’s Day table, and they are surprisingly easy to prepare once you watch Catherine’s technique. Plus, your kids can decorate these delicious desserts with their own creative touches.
If you’re looking for a truly special spot to take Mom, check out The Houstonian’s Mother’s Day buffet. Mother’s Day here is always remarkable. See the menu here.
Speaking of special, one of my favorite Uptown spots is hosting a Mother’s Day brunch—Masraff’s. Their three-course meal includes choices like their renowned Garlic Seared Calamari (amazing!) and delicious Pan Roasted Halibut. Masraff’s Mothers Day 2013.
