I stopped in at H-E-B Bunker Hill to visit with Sean Ballesteros, the resident wine manager and beer expert to talk gluten-free beer — and brands (even some local) you should keep an eye out for! A growing market for gluten-free products in general means an increased demand in these guys…beer that matches this change in flavor profile.
The Omission is a nice craft setup out of Portland, and brand new on the market. Omission beers are brewed using a proprietary brewing process to reduce the gluten levels to well below the widely accepted international gluten-free standard of 20 parts per million (ppm) for food and beverages.
Green’s is a Belgium brand…aggressive and adventurous. Dogfish Head‘s Tweason’ale, like Green’s, is sorghum based with added hints of honey and wild strawberry.
And take a good look at Leprechaun, Houston, it’s one of your own! Their line of artisanal ciders are apple-based, European-inspired and always gluten-free! For more delicious recipes and fun food and wine pairing ideas, subscribe to my newsletter.

Omission is NOT gluten free. It is gluten removed. It is NOT safe for people who can’t eat gluten, only those that choose not to eat it.
