In the past I’ve previewed a ‘Beer of the Month’ on my site, Goodtaste.tv. Now I’m back for the whole enchilada! Here’s a look into one of the most successful craft beer and restaurant companies in the nation: Breckenridge Brewery. Chances are, even if you don’t know much about craft beer, you’ve come across products from founder Richard Squire and his fabulous team. Today, you can find their collection of brews in 32 states!
Ever since doors opened on the original brewery site (that was in February of 1990), their mission has been the same: to create balanced, approachable and interesting hand-crafted beers. I can attest to that! Breckenridge became Colorado’s third craft brewery in the history of the state. This popular ski destination has a good thing going with homegrown quality beer; beverages as cool and crisp as the fresh mountain air in the surrounding countryside.
Breckenridge Brewery has grown from a small 3,000-barrel-a-year brewpub to now — well over 52,000 barrels of beer annually! They also operate five brewpubs and ale houses throughout the state of Colorado.
A few standouts:
The Avalanche Amber Ale is super smooth all the way down, with a clean finish. Just one of many draws to this top seller from the boys of Breck. To quote those in question, “We blend pale and caramel malts — and just a kiss of bittering hops — to create a refreshing-but-flavorful, anytime beer.” A perfect introduction to what this brewery does best! Available year-round.
For something seasonal, and just as tempting, seek out Pandora’s Bock. It’s bottom fermented at colder temperatures for a smooth yet sassy character. Enjoy a fluffy head and hints of brown sugar. I’ve also covered this Autumn Ale: toasty, full-bodied…a ‘pre-winter’ winner!
