Texan Cafe & Pie Shop's Fried Green Tomatoes
Crunchy fried green tomatoes that come with a kick! One plate and you’ll see why Texas Monthly named this place one of the best “small town cafés in the state."
Ingredients
- 2–3 green tomatoes sliced ¼ inch thick, enough for 10 slices
- 2 cups flour separated
- 1 1/2 cups cornmeal
- 1 Tablespoon ground cayenne pepper
- 1 Tablespoon kosher salt
- 1 1/2 cups milk
Instructions
- Combine 1 cup flour and remaining dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly.
- Combine eggs and milk and whisk until well blended.
- Dip green tomatoes in flour, dredge through egg mixture and back through cornmeal mixture.
- Deep-fry at 350 degrees until crust is golden brown (about 2–3 minutes).
