We Texans love our beer. Over the past few years, craft breweries have been booming across the state, and we couldn’t be more excited! While breweries continue to concoct new and exciting brews, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorites to add to your Texas beer bucket list. (Psst: You can snag all these Texas beers at H-E-B now!)
Altstadt Lager Beer
This fortress-style brewery in Fredericksburg exudes the German history this small Hill Country town was founded on. Alstadt Brewery is best known for its amazing bites, like chicken schnitzel and Bavarian sausage. Wash it all down with the classic lager, two-time winner of the Gold Medal for Munich-Style Helles at the Great American Beer Festival!
Shiner Ruby Redbird Beer
Brewed in Shiner, Texas, this beer is like slicing right into a ripe Texas Ruby Red grapefruit! While we love the classic Shiner Bock, we always look forward to the fun and creative seasonal flavors the brewery churns out throughout the year. Tart and juicy, the Shiner Ruby Redbird is made with freshly picked Texas grapefruit from the Rio Grande Valley and a kick of ginger for a refreshing way to beat the Texas heat. Grab a pack at your local H-E-B or book a tour at Shiner’s Spoetzl Brewery!
Karbach Crawford Bock
What’s better than beer and baseball? Astro fans can rejoice because Houston-based brewer Karbach has created Crawford Bock, a German lager, that’s smooth and deliciously malty—plus, a portion of every can sold goes to the Astros Foundation! If we can’t make it out to Minute Maid Park’s well-known Crawford Boxes, we can at least drink like it! The Karbach Restaurant and Biergarten are open—check out their website for hours and info!
Southern Star Bombshell Blonde Ale
Whether enjoyed by the pool, at the lake, or simply sitting at home, one sip of this bombshell will blow you away. Straight from Conroe, Texas, Southern Star Bombshell Blonde Ale is brewed with American Palo and German Vienna malts that combine to give this ale its distinctive smooth, creamy body. Southern Star’s taproom and outside bar are open and ready to serve you!
Alamo Beer Company Golden Ale
Alamo Golden Ale from the Alamo Beer Company in San Antonio is handcrafted with malted barley, Hallertau hops, yeast, and Texas Hill Country water (of course)! This Texas-brewed ale is light with a velvety finish. You can visit the Alamo Beer Company on 202 Lamar St Wednesdays through Sundays.
Saint Arnold Summer Pils
Saint Arnold Summer Pils is a golden Munich-style Helles that’s crisp and refreshing. It has a delicate, sweet malt taste that complements the hoppy aroma and flavor. Come visit Saint Arnold’s Beer Garden & Restaurant (more info available at their website).
Texas Beer Co. Bill Pickett Porter
This rich, malty Texas-style porter is produced by the Texas Beer Co. in Taylor, Texas, just outside of Austin. You’ll find notes of coffee malt and chocolate in this roasty beer, perfect for the more discerning beer drinkers at your gathering. Texas Beer Co. is worth a visit. It’s open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Austin Eastciders Honey Cider
We know this list is all about beer, but we had to mention one of our favorite Texas ciders: Austin Eastciders! There are too many great flavors to choose from (not to mention the new seltzers), but the Honey Cider is one of our go-to’s! Made with real Texas honey, heirloom bittersweet apples, and dessert apples, it strikes the perfect balance between tart and sweet. Check out the website for hours and info on the restaurant and taproom!
