Grand Central Cafe
We’re taking you to scary good cuisine from one of the most famous horror movie sets of all time! Head to Grand Central Cafe in the Hill Country for a good photo op, but stay for Texas-sized breakfast plates like the Philly Cheesesteak Benedict with juicy grilled beef, perfectly poached eggs, and homemade hollandaise sauce. This quaint country farmhouse is the original set of the 1973 horror movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the owners are happy to show you around! There’s no frights here anymore—just lots of fun and good food! This weekend, they’re sharing the recipe to their creamy Whiskey Shrimp Dip—perfect for snacking while watching a movie!
Kenny & Ziggy’s New York Delicatessen
You’re in for big sandwiches and an even bigger personality at Kenny & Ziggy’s New York Delicatessen in the Bayou City. This weekend, you’ll meet the larger-than-life Ziggy, who’s stacking up sandwiches so high, even Shaquille O’Neal had to have one! We’re talking about The Zellagabetsky (above), an 8-layer sandwich made with the juiciest deli meats like pastrami and corned beef with creamy Russian dressing. This New York–style deli is considered one of the best in the nation, but it doesn’t end at sliced meats: their Hungarian Goulash and Chicken Pot Pie are some of the best ever. This weekend, Ziggy shows you how to roll traditional Hungarian blintzes, just like they used to make in the Old Country.
The Shack BBQ
Tear into big juicy barbecue from one tiny shack in West Texas! The Shack BBQ in Lubbock is smoking some of the most tender barbecue in town, but also one of the most delicious desserts we’ve eaten to date: Apple Pie Cheesecake! (You’ll get the recipe this weekend!) You’ll meet the couple that works long days and early mornings to make the best barbecue in town. This weekend, the owner talks about overcoming a life-threatening injury that almost stopped him from realizing his barbecue dreams.
