This weekend on Goodtaste, we’re hitting up a cozy café, a bustling health food spot, and an authentic abuelita’s kitchen. First, we make our way to Blanco in the Texas Hill Country to visit a cute little restaurant where the chickens are free to roam. At Chess Club Cafe, locals love the stuffed omelets and stacked sandwiches, but what they come back for time and time again are the divine homemade pastries like the Maple Pecan Sticky Buns. Next, we visit the buzzing city of Austin to try a cup of joe at Picnik. Each cup of coffee at this popular café is laced with butter for a silky finish and a slower, more controlled release of caffeine. This good-for-you spot also has gluten-free versions of your favorite foods like Tempura-Battered Fish Tacos and killer Ice Cream Sandwiches. Then we’re going to Irma’s Original to try the Mexican food that is a favorite with the Houston Astros. Succulent Roasted Pork Tamales and Cheesy Chicken Enchiladas come smothered in homemade sauces and with a side of guacamole, but the standout is Irma’s famous mole.
