We’re hitting the road to Cajun country and loading up on some of the best eats in New Orleans. Our first stop is in the warehouse district for one of the most acclaimed eateries in the city and even the country, Cochon. The New York Times gave its praise to the Rabbit and Dumplings—fluffy dumplings and hearty chunks of rabbit meat are braised with carrot, onions, celery root, fresh herbs, and wine. Next we make our way to Joey K’s on Magazine Street, where classic Creole and Italian comfort food feed masses of local fans and tourists. Here, we try some of the best Red Beans and Rice in town that has earned international acclaim. Then we visit a hidden gem in a century-old pink house on Canal Street. Mandina’s has all your New Orleans favorites like po’boys and gumbo, but don’t skip the Meatballs and Red Gravy—what you may know as marinara. Lastly, we sip on Bloody Marys and dig into giant buttery biscuits at The Ruby Slipper Cafe. The brunch here has Eggs Benedict like no other, crowned with crispy fried chicken, apple-braised pork, or shrimp and smothered in a creamy Creole sauce.
Don’t miss out on all of the action (and incredible H-E-B wines).
