The new year is here, and even if you’re dieting this month, you’ve got to splurge a little. So why not cheat with a glass of wine — especially one that is affordable as these. As always, you can find these bottles at your local H-E-B.
Up first is a great salad wine, the Côtes du Roussillon Villages Les Vignes de Bila Haut. This wine exhibits aromas of lemon and grapefruit with smoky notes. The palate is round, with a great acidity which coming from the grapes ripening later in the season at higher altitude. It also has a freshness on the finish mixed with salty notes. $16
Next is the Josh Cellars Pinot Grigio. I’m a huge fan of all the Josh wines because the grapes are carefully sourced, the wine is expertly produced, and the bottles are always priced reasonably. The Pinot Grigio is made in the beautiful, cool climate of the Columbia Valley in Washington state. I love the tropical flavors in this wine — a bit of pineapple and mango. $13
This last find also is from Washington state, a spot that is known for its smooth cabs. The Columbia Crest Gold Red Blend is dark and rich with flavors of fresh raspberries and salted dark chocolate. Spiced herbs linger on the finish which pairs great with grilled meats and vegetables. $13
Cheers to a great start to the new year!
