We’re gearing up for the Royal Wedding! Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will be married at St. George’s Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle this Saturday, May 19.
We’re celebrating with everyone in the only way we know how: through good food and wine, of course! For that, we look to our friend, “The Royal Chef” Darren McGrady, Princess Diana’s former personal chef. We’ve also included some recipes inspired by the couple’s menu, which was revealed Monday by Kensington Palace.
Ready to get rockin’ with the Royals? Start with that cupcake above “fit for a Queen” from Crave in Houston. This light, lemon cupcake with elderberry jam filling, elder flower and lemon zest frosting is topped with a purple fondant lily. It’s inspired by the couple’s cake, which will be made by a Californian! Claire Ptak’s Violet Bakery in the U.K. will make a lemon and elder flower cake incorporating the “bright flavors of spring,” according to Kensington Palace.
Prince William’s Royal Wedding Cake
Let’s be honest: no matter how good the food was, the cake steals the show at a wedding! While it’s top of mind, we thought we’d ‘top’ this post off with the recipe to Prince William’s Royal Wedding Cake. This dark chocolate biscuit cake is a tea-time favorite of the Queen, according to Chef Darren McGrady, and was specifically requested for Prince William’s groom cake at his wedding in 2011.
Sticky Toffee Pudding with Clotted Cream
Speaking of sweet things, Chef Darren McGrady has served this exact recipe at Buckingham Palace! This Sticky Toffee Pudding with Clotted Cream is an elegant dessert that’s one of the Duchess of Cambridge’s (Kate Middleton) favorites! You can prepare using a double boiler or your oven — the results are equally delicious.
Smoked Pork & Cilantro Pancakes with Jalapeño Cream Cheese & Peach Jam
Thinking of throwing a party to celebrate the Royal Wedding? These Smoked Pork & Cilantro Pancakes with Jalapeño Cream Cheese & Peach Jam are easy to make but elegant.
Kick off the party with a sip of the Chandon Sweet Star from H-E-B — more details on this wine right here.
Pan Seared Beef Tenderloin Steaks with Burgundy Chocolate Sauce
Give your guests the ‘Royal Treatment’ with these luxurious Pan Seared Beef Tenderloin Steaks with a Burgundy Chocolate Sauce — one of Queen Elizabeth’s favorite dishes! For an extra special touch, make it with McGrady’s Kale & Goat Cheese Mashed Potatoes.
A dish this lovely deserves an outstanding wine. Sip ‘The Quilt’ Cabernet Sauvignon from H-E-B. It’s worth every bit of its $45 price tag — more details on this wine here.
Chocolate Truffles
Windsor Castle (where Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will be married) hasn’t revealed every detail of the menu, but they announced Monday they will be preparing chocolate truffles. Make your own richly-flavored truffles at home with this recipe for Rum Chocolate Truffles from The Woodlands Resort.
We love these truffles with the Brady Vineyard Zinfandel — an awesome wine from H-E-B for just $19 a bottle. More details on it right here.
Royal Burnt Cream
We’ve also learned the Royal Wedding menu will include mini Crème Brûlées! We’re always a fan of McGrady’s ‘Royal Burnt Cream’ Recipe, which he showed me how to prepare a few years ago! (Watch here). Raise a toast to the new couple (and delicious tastes!) with a glass of the Moët & Chandon Rosé Impérial. More details on this fabulous wine at H-E-B right here.
About 600 guests are expected to attend the reception (wish we were one of them!) and the menu is expected to be filled with fresh produce, sourced from local farms. Learn more about it here. Chef Darren McGrady invited me into his kitchen recently — watch below to learn a few Royal secrets!
