Whether you’re a foodie or a crooner, you’re welcome at Hanzo, San Antonio’s newest Japanese gastropub, or izakaya!
“I did some research and discovered that the Japanese version of your local watering hole is called an izakaya,” said Steve Mahoney, owner of Hanzo.
Wind down after work with one of their cleverly-named cocktails like the Miso Hungry (with miso simple syrup) or the Matcha Matcha Man–you betcha there’s matcha in that! Tasty bites include Hamachi sashimi with ginger soy dressing and scallions [top] or the squid kara age with yuzu kewpie dipping sauce [above]. Bonus: there’s karaoke every Saturday night!
Austin

Fans of one of Austin’s favorite food trucks will LOVE The Peached Tortilla‘s brick and mortar location. It’s a fabulous fusion of Asian and Southern flavors, like the Crispy Umami Chicken Wings [above]. Found Eric Silverstein shared the recipe with us!
“We try to make the food affordable, but still serve a really high quality product and make sure our customers have a good, unique dining experience,” said Silverstein.
New this summer is a new lunch service–sounds pretty peachy to us!

Get starry-eyed at Star Fish, Houston’s newest coastal bar and kitchen, and go gaga for Gulf favorites like oysters and red snapper. Catch a taste of their house made sauces like the Sauce Fleur de Chartreuse, Jalapeño Mignonette, Meyer Lemon Pesto, and Leche de Tigre– or get reeled in with one of their signature Tiki cocktails like the Beach Blond and the Seaplane.
Savor sides like the Sautéed Cauliflower Steaks, Butter Fries, and the Heirloom Scarlet Runner Bean, in a gorgeous nautical-inspired space, complete with a 300-gallon freshwater tank [below]!
