We crisscross the state each week to bring you the best flavors from around Texas! From the bar to the kitchen, San Antonio’s maestra of margaritas shares a recipe to her famous tres leches cake!
Then, it’s on to Austin for feisty French fries from a local entrepreneur that are rockin’ our state capital. Talk about going for broke. Hear his amazing story!
And, save room this weekend for a southern favorite in Houston where big personalities and plates go hand-in-hand. You’ll think you’ve died and gone to New Orleans Heaven!
ALDACO’S
One of the most spectacular views in the Alamo City comes with a mean margarita and authentic Mexican food made with love! La Maestra Blanca Aldaco first opened the doors of her 13-table eatery in a quaint little house in St. Paul’s Square back in 1989. Needless to say, since then, Aldaco’s has evolved to three unique locations around town, all serving traditional dishes that transport you to Blanca’s grandmother’s table back in Guadalajara.
Another secret to her success? The Pastel Tres Leches cake – a recipe I’ve been asking for over a decade! Blanca was the one who made tres leches a household name in Texas. This weekend, you’ll finally be able to find it on Goodtaste.tv, along with her Grilled Cheese Queso. Salud!
CHI’LANTRO
Stick around for a food truck phenomena firing up Austin with a fabulous fusion of Korean BBQ and tangy Tex Mex. Call it coincidence, fate or plain genius that launched some of the most popular French fries you’ll find in the Lone Star State. The Kimchi Fries at Chi’Lantro are a magical mountain of munchies; a creative combination that came together in desperation from throwing nearly every single ingredient on the truck on top of hand-cut fries – a result that’s now paying MAJOR dividends!
Get the recipe on Goodtaste ahead of Sunday’s show and savor every last bite while tuning in. 😉
HOLLEY’S
There are two reasons why Houstonians head to Holley’s: a myriad of fresh, innovative flavors and the guy behind them, Chef Mark Holley. He’s just as passionate about seafood as he is about people and family. Chef is quick to credit the presentations that come to each table as a reflection of his own colorful roots.
Signature items like the giant Thai-Style Fried Red Snapper [above] is easily a task for two, served on a bed of Hoppin’ John fried rice, alongside stir-fried kimchi with collard greens and two kinds of sauce; an understated union of Pan-Asian and Pan-American influences from the Louisiana Bayou to the streets of Cambodia!
