Buñuelos with fresh strawberries and whipped coconut tequila cream from Alcomar.
Embark on a culinary adventure you won’t forget! Each week we travel the Texas Trifecta between Houston, Austin and San Antonio to explore new places to dine. A few will be familiar to you, but others will be delightful surprises!
BRENNAN’S OF HOUSTON
We’re dining in style and cooking up creole with one of Houston’s top chefs at Brennan’s of Houston! When I was growing up, my family celebrated plenty of special occasions at this iconic spot in the Bayou City. Here, Creole classics share the table with TONS of Texas coastal cuisine.
This weekend, Executive Chef Danny Trace will take you into the kitchen, where he’ll whip up a little Cajun Coubion. Get ready to taste one of Brennan’s amazing crab cakes, along with those famous BBQ Shrimp and Grits. Chef also shares some awesome photos of his two boys and their fishing adventures. 🙂
THE GARDEN CO.
In the middle of nowhere, on the way to somewhere, sits The Garden Company Marketplace & Café. It’s a spot you’ve probably never heard of before, but a place you’ll want to put on your to-do list—in charming little Schulenburg, Texas. The food here is truly fantastic, and so is the shopping! A true Texas gem that’s quite a find.
Everything is farm to table fresh at the café, from peppercorn crusted Texas raised tenderloin [above] to velvety sea bass with tangy Kalamata olives and sweet cherry tomatoes. Even the Brussels Sprouts are to die for with capers, Kalamata olives and candied walnuts. My friends at H-E-B Cooking Connection will show you how to make them at home. Even your kids will love these!
ALCOMAR
Take 290 straight to South Austin for creative coastal cuisine from a trio that’s been cooking together for 20 years! The good vibes are alive at Alcomar. So many of you told me about this spot I had to come check it out! Nothing like quality food and drinks to bring friends together.
Owner Carlos Rivero, along with Chefs Jeff Martinez and Alma Alcocer-Thomas, form a unique partnership (and friendship) that pays dividends inside and out of the kitchen. It’s inside, however, where familiar flavors of Mexico combine with the vibrant spices of Peru and places beyond! Such is the case with the brilliant Butternut Poblano Relleno [above] – stuffed with butternut squash, swiss chard & goat cheese, over roasted garlic pecan cream and saffron rice.
Plus…
It’s a mixed bag for my H-E-B Wine Finds of the week, but I can tell you…I love every last one of these!

I have my DVD set to record your show but so far all I’ve gotten is a car race. No have it set for 1 hr over, hope to get you. Checking the web site I get restaurants but don’t see the wine reviewed. How do I get them?
Thanks

Jane- Our show ended up airing in San Antonio in its regular slot of 6p on News 4 San Antonio. Originally, NASCAR was bumping us to Sunday but because of the flooding, NASCAR was postponed on Saturday–hence, we aired. I’ll have the entire episode posted Monday on Goodtaste.tv so you can find your fave wine segment you mentioned, along with the other info. Thank you for being such a loyal viewer !!! 🙂
