Hop in! EPISODE 9 of Goodtaste with Tanji airs this weekend, June 4-5, in select cities. Find your sweet spot at The Spot-an island vibe on the water with fresh Gulf seafood and colorful cocktails! Plus, barbecue and brisket tips from the TX chef who wrote the book! And, we hit the Hill Country for a family run brew pub with homestyle eats, live music and artisanal beers for the pairing.
THE SPOT
Head to the coast for some sensational seafood from one of the hottest spots on Galveston Island. Lines are often out the door at The Spot, but the food is only half the story. One-time dishwasher, Dennis Byrd, is now the owner. He started work at The Spot when he was just 17, and the former owners wouldn’t hand over the keys until Dennis completed his 4-year degree!
Over 15 years later, the Island Famous venue has grown from 30 to over 300 employees servicing upwards of 4,000 every day during the summer. Colossal burgers, crunchy po’ boys, blackened fish tacos and fruity cocktails–delicious local surf & turf with unforgettable views of the water!
SMOKE: THE RESTAURANT
We’re in hog heaven at Smoke, gettin’ down to juicy brisket from a true master. Chef/Owner Brian West is a CIA graduate and former instructor, actually penning the course material for barbecue that CIA students still use today! Smoke is the awesome Texas BBQ you know and love in an elevated atmosphere; table service with a chef driven menu, house-made sauces and full bar at your disposal. There’s no skimping on the portions. Healthy helpings of melt-in-your-mouth brisket, beef sausage–even some Dr. pepper Pork Ribs impossible to pass up.
Sides like Smoke’s signature Loaded Cauliflower also come, well, loaded!
Chef West shares a few key pointers when smoking your own brisket at home. Free lessons for the adventurous eater! 🙂
PECAN STREET BREWING
Share a hearty home-cooked meal and an ice-old pint at Pecan Street Brewing – a family-owned brewery, brew pub and restaurant in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. The kind of laid back, welcoming country spot that knows no stranger.
As you might’ve guessed, they brew their own craft beer in-house with a constant rotation of 30 varietals on tap! The food isn’t too shabby either. Pecan Street is famous for their thin crust, brick oven pizzas and this guy [below]…the Pecan Street Pecan Sweet Chicken, deep-fried and topped with a sweet honey butter and pecan sauce that’s to die for!
Chef Adrian at the H-E-B Cooking Connection at Montrose Market shows us how to make a gluten-free version of this wildly popular dish. For the recipe and his step-by-step demonstration–stay tuned!
Plus…

Please check the noted time slot listed here for your show. I think it may need to be corrected for San Antonio. It threw me off last weekend.
Don’t want to miss an episode EVER! ????
