Stumble into Liberty Kitchen on Fat Tuesday and you won’t leave disappointed! Their menu features an array of American comfort foods in an artsy, upscale setting just off 5th Street in downtown Austin.
This week, however, it’s all about authentic Cajun cuisine. Liberty Kitchen’s Oysters on the half shell are available in East Coast and Gulf selections, served with Mignonette, horseradish, house cocktail and lemon. They’re also on special during Happy Hour… 😉
LB’s Creole Whole Crab, Shrimp & Andouille Gumbo exceeds expectations, plated with fried okra and a fried oyster, along with creole potato salad (or rice) and bread. A gumbo’s greatness is determined by its roux. The key is the color of the roux, based on how long it’s cooked. Theirs is fantastic! Meaty and delicious:
For dessert, creamy Tres Leches may be the way to go. It’s a dense yellow cake moistened with three milks and topped with Italian meringue. All of the desserts (including this one) are made in-house!
