Rethink your appetite for ‘winter’ wines with mulled wine, or glogg. Take a favorite bottle of red wine and let it sit on low heat, adding in seasonal spices such as cinnamon, cloves or cardamom, along with orange juice and a liqueur. My current fave is Licor 43 from Spain.
After simmering for 15-20 minutes, allowing all of the flavor from the spices to penetrate your concoction, strain out the leftover spices and voilà !
Mulled wine is super easy to do at home and the aromas are delightful! For a warm, deep, rich tasting glogg, I recommend using a dry red wine. My only rule of thumb: never cook with a wine you’re not also prepared to drink! So, don’t cheat yourself. Reach for the good stuff if that’s what you also enjoy by the glass. 😉
Glogg is one of those drinks that’s made to taste – and stores beautifully in the refrigerator for up to a week!
