One of the most satisfying parts of my job is to be able to share my very favorite places to wine and dine with readers. Zinc Bistro has been at the top of my list in San Antonio for a variety of reasons. This not-so hidden gem removed from the River Walk is the type of place insiders know about it, and tourists (if they’re lucky), stumble upon and return to again and again.
Zinc’s secluded courtyard…
The food is fabulous and incredibly reasonable in price. Plus, Zinc is home to one of the most diverse wine lists in all of the Alamo City: over 50 wines by the glass with 300 different labels to choose from! It’s a great place to step outside your comfort zone and try wines sourced from all over the world.

As far as the menu goes, there are some fixtures you simply must indulge in. First, their Texas Chopped Salad (my go-to) made with tequila cured salmon, arugula, pepitas, cotija cheese, pearl couscous, sweet dried corn, and a lush basil pesto dressing…
Zinc is also renown for burgers bursting with flavors. The famous Zinc Burger is even nicknamed the ‘Crack’ Burger because it’s that addicting! The Devil’s River Lamb Burger is just as tasty…locally sourced lamb, serrano fig jam, triple brie, sweet grilled onions and a spicy mayo. 😉
How about those crab cakes?! They’re some of the meatiest you’ll find around these parts. Gulf Blue Crabcakes with tarragon butter sauce, micro greens, pear and fresh avocado.
Pizza is another popular pick with several different varieties…classics like Zinc’s Margharita [below] and sizzling Soppressata:
You can’t go wrong any which way for dessert. Lust after Zinc’s Brioche Apple Bread Pudding Soufflé – inspired by NOLA cuisine with a certain Cajun flair. It has a nut brittle topping and toffee crunch ice cream. See more in the video above!
