Plan a home-cooked meal with culture this summer. No matter if you can’t make the trip, transport your tastebuds to exotic locations with the perfect vacation wine. It’s cheaper than a plane ticket! 🙂
I’ve always been a big fan of rosĂ©. Any red grape can make rosĂ©, and they’re not all sweet. I love them in humid days as a good porch wine…something with a light lunch or early dinner. JCB and Love Drunk are two varietals I have my eye on this summer – find both on shelves at H-E-B!
Then there’s everyone’s favorite: pinot. Very versatile and doesn’t overwhelm, practically a pre-requisite for the casual wine fan. There’s a fun label you might like, Cherry Tart, that’s out now:
Something for Cab fans…Cabernet Franc. More red fruit dominant, less heavy or big and bold for the season. Cab Francs are also generally 20-30% cheaper than their Cabernet Sauvignon counterpart. Three Knights out of Sonoma is a Houston Rodeo winner…a superb summer selection and a great grill wine.
My ‘Wine Guy’ Sean Ballesteros also has his picks for more worldly wines…the Rioja Añares Reserva out of Spain, the Lunta Malbec (Argentina), and his personal fave, the Tuscan Monsanto Chianti Classico.
