When KTRK asked me to give retiring news personality Don Nelson a foodie send-off, I had mixed feelings about seeing him go. After some 39 years, Don is retiring and will now have the luxury of dining out weeknights, sleeping in if he chooses in the mornings and the gift of time to travel where ever his foodie-heart desires.
While I’m happy to see him get to really ‘live life’ outside the media glare, I will miss working with him. I’ve worked with dozens and dozens of journalists (maybe hundreds) over the years, and Don Nelson is truly a pro! A gentleman, a wonderful journalist and a stickler for details–correct details. Don inspired me to be on my game because he was ALWAYS on his.
Some of Houston’s finest helped us give him a tasty goodbye…
