Now that fall has all but arrived, one of the most popular seasonal beers of…well, EVER has hit the shelves. It’s pumpkin beer time! Beer experts like my guy Sean from H-E-B have been seeing a steady increase in popularity of craft pumpkin ales year after year.
Each varietal is a little bit different from the next, and come from all over the United States — like Shipyard’s Pumpkinhead you see above…new to Texas (and here to stay!). These ales are brewed with pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove…the kind of aromatic ingredients you’d expect when thinking of Mom’s pumpkin pie.
A few of our picks you’ll start to see on shelves this autumn are as follows:
Harpoon’s UFO Pumpkin
Unfiltered pumpkin ale; a wheat beer that’s good for beginners (malty, but not overly spicy)
Wasatch Pumpkin Seasonal Ale
Brewed with natural pumpkin and spices; squash dominate

St. Arnold’s Pumpkinator
Texas’ oldest craft brewery releases around October 15; an imperial stout that’s big, black and full of spice! You’ll also taste the brown sugar and molasses…
Jolly Pumpkin’s Noel del Calabaza
Aged in oak barrels; described as “deep mahogany and malty, layered hops, figs, raisins, sugar plums, cashews betwixt rum laden truffles.”

Thank you! I moved from Maine 18 months ago and missed my Pumpkinhead last year. I love that stuff!
