Try saying it five times fast — but it’s true! September wines do signal a seasonal switch in our dining habits, and our wine choices inevitably follow suit. The autumn season is just around the corner, and although temperatures aren’t dropping any time soon, Summer 2014 is technically all but outta here!
Rosés are still so hot, and I drink them year-round. The Silverado Sangiovese Rostao out of Napa Valley has a delicious strawberry, raspberry flavor with some residual sugar in there for extra sweetness. It’s great with grilled meats and also a good cooking wine! Dry, crisp at a cost of just $24 per bottle.
Some of the best wine bargains on the market right now are coming from South America. The Kaiken Terrior Series Corte is a blend of Malbec, Bonarda, and Petit Verdot. A very silky, full-bodied wine with blueberry and blackberry flavors, in addition to subtle hints of plum. Another solid selection for grilled fare. This is a steal, retailing for about $11 at H-E-B!
I love Chilean wines. Nearly all of the releases from Callejon del Crimen are scoring in the 90’s consistently. This Gran Reserva 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon is lush with blackberry and plum flavors; a full-bodied cab with chocolate notes on the finish for $16.
