Wanna get to know your neighbors better, host a wine tasting! Just ask KPRC Anchor Courtney Zavala. Close to forty neighborhood moms converged on Courtney’s house for an evening of tempting tastes paired with a variety of wines.
Talk about a sweet gig. Mom gets to taste some wonderful wines and catch up with friends, and by the time she gets home, Dad has the kids in bed! Well, at least in theory. 🙂
I assisted Courtney in choosing the wines and the hors ‘doerves to pair with each varietal for the fun get-together.
The evening started with my favorite Prosecco, Enza. It comes from the Veneto region of Italy. Enza is a crisp, dry and refreshing aperitif perfect for summer with its peach and honeysuckle flavors. It paired quite nicely with Courtney’s bacon-wrapped dates.
Next came The Crossings Sauvignon Blanc, probably the best value Sauvignon Blanc on the market right now and certainly one of the most popular wines of the evening. This New Zealand wine has a beautiful aroma of tropical fruit—Lychee and passion fruit. Its citrus flavors of green apples and melon paired perfectly with our goat cheese crostinis and cantelope and proscuito knibbles.
The Joseph Carr Chardonnay with its citrus and vanilla notes was an easy match with our cheeses bites, a simple mozzarella and tomato combo drizzled with olive oil and then slices of manchego.
The Josh Cabernet transitioned our palates into the red wines. This lighter style cab has some blackberries, cherries and vanilla notes. It pairs beautifully with lighter cuts of meat like flank steak, but we chose to endulge our chocoholic tendancies by pairing with some dark chocolate brownie bites.
The final star of the table—the Girard Artistry, a beautiful Bordeaux-style blend that hails from Napa. It was dessert in a glass with its flavors of dark cherry, blackberry, espresso and cocoa.

Tanji, I have bought Enza at Dough, and love it, but do you know where I can find it locally in San Antonio? Dough will let me buy it by the case, but the HEB or the liquor store would be more convenient.
Thanks and Cheers!

Some HEB’s carry it and so does Total Wine. Have you tried the rosé version? It’s very good too.
