We’re taking a refresher course in summer beer from the last frontier! The award-winning Alaskan Brewing Company is still one of our top craft choices around. Inspired by the majestic setting that surrounds them, the folks at this brewery do their best to put a little bit of Alaska in every bottle.
The beer itself is often referred to as the “great American import,” because it’s shipped to the Lower 48 states by barge right from Juneau!
Alaskan Brewing Co. is also first craft brewery in the country to install a unique boiler that burns the company’s spent grain (the accumulated waste from the brewing process) into steam. This action powers much of the brewery’s daily activities, while maintaining a commitment to the environment. It’s their aim to have a zero-net negative effect by reclaiming and reusing at least as much waste and emissions as they produce. Very cool!
The seasonal release to look out for is the Alaskan Summer Ale; a clean, refreshing ale based on the traditional style of Kölsch beer brewed in Cologne, Germany. Made from glacier-fed water, a generous blend of European and Pacific Northwest hop varieties, as well as premium two-row and specialty malts, the Summer Ale’s straw-gold color and easy drinkability factor are key for this time of year.
