It doesn’t get any fresher than this! Goodtaste got with our go-to Executive Chef, Don Carr, in Sysco Central Texas kitchens for a crash course on supporting local — and just how easy it is for Sysco customers to do so!
Our friends at Sysco have done nearly all of the work for you, partnering with small local Texas farmers and producers to get a smorgasbord of farm-fresh products and produce available throughout the year. Everything from high quality protein items to salads and dessert…something for every category.
Get a good look at some of these awesome offerings like this quail from Diamond H Ranch out of Bandera, TX.
It’s an all-white quail that comes in a variety of cuts and is less gamey than your average wild quail.
There’s also this Elgin Sausage from the famous Southside Market in Elgin, TX.
Don has plated it on a Sheila Partin bun out of Houston…LOVE these! Her hamburger buns are always sweet and have a lovely texture to them.
This plate of micro greens has fresh beats and cheese cubes from the Brazos Valley Cheesery out of Waco. Of course, one of my favorite beef products of all time is what you see above. Heart healthy, HeartBrand Akaushi beef straight from their ranch in Yokum, TX.
Akaushi contains the healthy fat and cholesterol that doesn’t solidify in your body!
And who can forget about dessert? The Cake Plate out of Austin provided us with two decadent selections: a Chocolate Caramel Pecan Cake AND a Chocolate & Chipotle Torte…a flavorful, fiery choice to cap off any good meal. King Cheesecake Company (Houston) also supplied this incredible Red Velvet Cheesecake. Just beautiful!
Everything is fresh when you Go Texan. This means having an understanding of where your food comes from before arriving on your plate, over and above the inclination to support the people around you. It’s a true win/win!
