Farm-fresh ingredients – with emphasis on the “fresh” part! Happy Hour is a tempting time frame for La Condesa – an award-winning modern Mexican restaurant in downtown Austin – but then again so is just about every time.
This elevated cuisine is popular across the board. The 2nd Street location is prime for the frenzy of foot traffic from the surrounding high-rise businesses and hotels. It’s also directly across the street from the world-famous Austin City Limits.
Fans of post-work rendezvous will stumble upon some exquisite a la carte tacos and tostadas, ceviches (try the ‘Hamachi’) and carne asada — most of which fall in the $5-$10 range during this time. Very agreeable.
One heavenly highlight, however, was the house Guacamole Tasting [above]. Four generous fixings which included a very ripe traditional serving, along with the following:
- Chipotle Purée & Toasted Almond
- Pomegranate, Pomegranate Molasses, Queso Fresco
- Jumbo Lump Crab, Apple, Coconut Vinegar (+ 2)
La Condesa also (quietly) boasts the largest selection of 100% blue agave tequila and mezcal in Austin. We played bartender’s choice and ordered the top two cocktails according to their bar mixologist, Morgan. Half off during Happy Hour!
Alma Blanca
habanero-infused siembra azul blanco, ginger liqueur, agave nectar, pineapple juice, fresh corn, hoja de hierba santa, hibiscus-rose-infused salt rim
Watermelon-Elderflower Martini
Tito’s vodka, St. Germain Elderflower liqueur, agave nectar, fresh citrus & watermelon juice
