CAN you dig it?! Find your way to frosted bliss at Oskar Blues – the original craft brewery that came in a can. Based now in Longmont, CO., the beer has been a’brewin’ since 1998, when an impromptu batch was made in the basement of Oskar Blues Restaurant.
Four years, and many long hours later, Oskar Blues became the first craft operation to can its own beer, the flagship being named after owner Dale Katechis…that’s Dale’s Pale Ale! The New York Times declared it to be the best pale ale in country, while Beer Advocate claims it’s “One of the quintessential hoppy pale ales of our time.” I’ve previewed this varietal on my site before – it was Goodtaste’s ‘Beer of the Month’ for August 2012 ;).
At first, Dale and the original crew used a hand-canning line on a table-top machine that sealed one can at a time. Today, the new line produces 300 cans a minute!
The brewery itself brews their 6 production beers in 100 and 200 barrel batches for distribution in 25 states. It comes as no surprise that they’re listed as one of the Top 50 craft brewers in the nation. For cool, quirky ales that don’t take themselves too seriously – this is your brand!
This just in!
Oskar Blues plans to turn the entire industry on its ear once again by re-inventing the glass bottle…
