A busy month in Houston for wine and food fans! There are some noteworthy opportunities to taste some incredible wines and sample delectable dishes from the Bayou City’s top chefs. Up first, Saturday, April 9, is the Brenner’s 2ndAnnual Wine Fest. This event is at Brenner’s on the Bayou…yes, the place with the incredible steaks. The wine fest will feature many top producers from both Napa and Sonoma. The famous Swanson Merlot will be there, DeLoach pinots from the Russian River Valley and some of the Benziger wines. Chris Benziger is a friend and I’m a huge fan of his beautiful winery and the wines he makes there. You can see the beautiful winery on the video we shot recently with the Benziger bunch.
Next, this Thursday and every Thursday for the next couple of months, Masraff’s on Post Oak Boulevard has its Patio On the Boulevard event–a wine and food pairing that each week spotlights different region’s cuisine and wines. This Thursday the wines will be from Argentina, and the chef will pair them with the region’s local dishes. I love this event! You get a chance to try a large variety of wines from one area, so you get a good understanding of the wines being produced and how they pair with the regional cuisine. Masraff’s Patio on the Boulevard’s start every Thursday at about 5:30.
Next weekend, April 14-17 is the Galveston Food and Wine Festival. There will be some wine pairing dinners and then Friday is the Wine and Gulf Seafood Showcase. Regional chefs will prepare all kinds of seafood fare and the creative dishes will be paired with the perfect wine. Saturday is the Grand Tasting at Saenger Fest Park where about 40 different wineries will showcase their wines and again, you won’t go hungry as there will be some wonderful food onhand as well.
The BIG event this month is the HEB Grand Wine and Food Affair in Sugarland and Missouri City. Friday evening’s Grand Tasting at the Sugarland Marriot Town Square will feature some incredible chefs like Brian Caswell from Reef restaurant, John Sheely with Mockingbird Bistro and Jeff Everts from the Houstonian just to name a few. More than 100 wineries are participating in this event. Then on Saturday, it’s the Sienna Sip and Stroll at the Sienna Springs Resort in Missouri City. More fabulous food and wine tastings in a casual outdoor setting. I’ll be hanging out in the HEB tent where you can sample some incredible food and of course, wonderful wines.
So, drink lots of water….it’s going to be a busy month!
