A trip to the Texas Hill Country wouldn’t be complete without a stop in the charming town of Boerne. And, situated right in the heart of Main street is the charming Boerne Wine Company. It’s beautiful, ultra modern but warm and cozy at the same time…a great place to spend an afternoon. Owner Chris Grossman picks out a few of his favorite red wines….see if you agree.
Marietta Old Vine Red
Predominately Zinfandel grapes in luscious wine. The flavors are intense as these vines vines are very old and go deep into earth…spicy notes and a lot of fruit…dark fruit…think plums and dark cherry.
Messina Hof – 2009
A Texas Cabernet with bragging rights. Seven generations of wine making in this family that trace all the way back to Germany. This cab has peppery notes and dark fruit with a hint of earthiness that is unique to Texas.
Palmaz – 2006 Cabernet
Palmaz is a sustainable winery. Its 15 story underground facility is state of the art, and the story behind its creator is quite interesting. This is a small production… and I must say it reminds me of velvet in a glass. A luxury to be savored.
