What a delightful way to spend a Saturday morning! My dear friend Blanca Aldaco invited me to attend a Chef’s Table at the Pearl Farmers Market hosted by Johnny Henandez, chef of the soon to be new restaurant Mesalegre. It was fun!
The family style presentation is on the beautiful upper banks of the newly renovated ‘museum reach’ of the San Antonio Riverwalk. The tables are shaded and the breeze is pleasant.
Lunch included a bright green crisp romaine salad chock full of ruby red ripe tomatoes and juicy cucumbers topped off with an orange/peanut vinaigrette.
Beautiful Pacific shrimp with a decadently delicious butter sauce rife with garlic, tomatoes, onions, cilantro and a hint of Serrano were my favorite. There’s more! Farm raised lamb with slow roasted onions and a variety of tasty mushrooms, roasted vegetables drizzled with olive oil and a delightful couscous. Dessert was a yummy gingerbread cake and a dollop of vanilla ice cream topped off with local roasted pecans.
All of the ingredients came from the Pearl farmers at the market – talk about farm to table fresh! If you want wine, bring a bottle. The lunch is $20 per person—but it is memorable! You can make reservations to attend online…
