Every week on Q101.9 FM I do a fun segment called Weekend Preview that lets you know what food and wine events are going on around town…motivation to get your weekend started! It could be a free wine tasting somewhere or maybe a special offer from one of my restaurant partners on my website.
I’ve got the perfect day trip for this weekend. Head to Blanco for their annual Lavender Festival. Just the sound of it feels relaxing, right! There will be all kinds of lavender products…everything from beautiful soaps to delicious honeys. The fun starts Friday afternoon.
While you’re in Blanco there’s a cute little bakery called The Deutsch Apple Bakery that makes delicious apple pecan cakes and muffins. I took the back roads to Austin the other day, and this little gem was well worth the detour.
Elisa McClure, one of the owners of the Ye Kendall Inn in Boerne, told me it was a must-do, and she was right. Of course, Elisa knows her food as she’s a chef & nutritionist. Her favorite Deutsch delicacy is the fried apple pie.
If you want to linger in the Hill Country a little longer, visit a Texas winery. Texas Hills Vineyard is nearby. Head north a little ways on US 281 to Johnson City, turn right onto Ranch Road 2766 and go about a mile. Enjoy your weekend!
