Cozy up to a little comfort food and new wine pairings this spring! I’ve found the perfect spot for getting your comfort food ‘fix’ this spring, plus a few new wine pairings!
There’s something about comfort food — even if you’re not from the South — that soothes your soul! We’re talking flaky and buttery biscuits, fluffy mashed potatoes and fried chicken, of course! That’s where Colleen’s Kitchen in Austin comes in. It’s Southern food set in a warm and friendly environment, where you feel like you’re family!
Colleen’s biscuits are just like the ones Grandma used to make, all by hand and all so delicious. Order one of their ‘Little Biscuits’ with fried chicken, pickled mustard seed mayo, cayenne honey and pickles (above). I’m raving about their Fried Green Tomato biscuit made with pimento cheese, pickled red onions and a housemade buttermilk ranch dressing.
Colleen’s fried chicken is truly unique. They marinate the chicken overnight with a special blend of seasonings and buttermilk. The buttermilk helps keep the chicken juicy and oh-so-flavorful! Colleen’s side dishes are treated with an equal amount of care and made fresh every day.
Looking for something lighter? I love Colleen’s Orange Roasted Beets with fresh arugula, oranges, candied walnuts and a housemade tarragon orange vinaigrette. The beets are soaked in orange juice for three hours and the juice is later used to make the vinaigrette.
Their Banana Pudding is served in an adorable mason jar — and it’s just like how you remember it! So delicious!
We can’t leave out the wine — this week, we’re dreaming of new Rosés! You can find all of my wine finds at H-E-B.

Special thank you to my friends at KEYE CBS Austin for helping me try these out!
Saturday, March 24 your episode featured a red wine with no sulfites. Instead nitrogen was used to enhance the flavor.
Please tell me more and what label should I look for?
My Bride is a huge fan of red wines, but the sulfites are bad news for her.
Thanks in advance!
Yes, it was a Molly Dooker Shiraz 🙂
