Size and shape both make a difference in the way a wine tastes. I took a seminar put on by Georg Riedel (the Riedel Glass family) where he had us take an inexpensive white wine and pour it into five glasses of different shapes and sizes. It taste different in every glass!
The Riedel company many years ago began experimenting with different wines in different shaped glasses. They determined that different shaped bowls either enhanced or diminished a wine’s taste. Their glass choices for certain wines are now standards in the wine industry – individually shaped glasses for wine varietals like chardonnay, cabernet, etc.
Steven Krueger, the Sommelier at the Westin La Cantera, shows you which wines go best with which glass.
