Inn at Occidental Lemon Loaf

Ingredients
  • ½ c butter
  • 1 c sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ c milk
  • 1 large lemon
  • ¼ c powdered sugar
  • 1 ½ c flour

I just discovered these delicious lemon treats at the delightful Inn at Occidental in Sonoma. We love staying there when visiting the wine country. It’s only about 8 miles from the coast and is nestled in the scenic rolling Sonoma Hills. The breakfasts here are amazing! These lemon bars just happened to be on the buffet. I had to get the recipe to share with you! Enjoy.

For one of our favorite wine finds while we were in Sonoma check out the amazing Pinot Noirs made here

Method:

Cream together the butter and sugar. Grate the rind of the lemon and add to creamed mixture. Add all the rest of the ingredients except the powdered sugar and lemon. Grease one large loaf pan or two small loaf pans. Pour in the batter and bake.

Squeeze out all the juice from the lemon and combine with ¼ c powdered sugar. Mix well and pour over the loaf when it comes out of the oven. Allow the syrup to sink in, and then turn the loaf out onto a rack to cool. Note: Add 1 Tbsp of poppy seeds if desired.

Bake at 350º for 1 hour.

Ok …all is correct now. It should be 1 1/2 c flour & 1/2t baking powder. So sorry for the inconvenience.

Yes…I’ve stayed there several times and absolutely love it! You’re only about 10 miles from the coast (which is beautiful) and right in the heart of pinot noir country!

Lemon oil may be used in aromatherapy. Researchers at The Ohio State University found that lemon oil aroma does not influence the human immune system, but may enhance mood.
