Haven's Chocolate Ice Box pie

  • 1 pie deep dish 9” Oreo pie crust
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1½ tablespoons cornstarch
  • pinch of salt
  • 6 large eggs yolks
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 5 ounces dark chocolate
  • 2 ounces milk chocolate
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ tablespoon Jack Daniels

The title says it all..! Haven’s chocolate icebox pie is every bit as scrumptious as it sounds. See how it all comes together for your next bash, including that splash of Jack Daniels:

In a double boiler combine sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, salt and egg yolks and stir until well combined. Wisk in milk and cream, cook over medium heat stirring often until mixture thickens to a custard consistency. Remove from heat and stir in chocolate, vanilla and Jack Daniels.  Let cool slightly, and then pour into prepared pie crust. Refrigerate covered until set overnight.

Chocolate Cookie Crust

8 ounces cookie crumbs

4 ounces melted butter

Mix crumbs and butter in a mixing bowl until fully combined; the mixture should be slightly wet and hold together when squeezed between your hands. Firmly press the mixture into a pie pan until bottom and sides are fully covered. Remove any excess crumbs and refrigerate or freeze until needed.

I cannot determine the topping on this delectable pie. You mention whipped cream, but it doesn’t look like that. Can you let me know what is in the photograph? Looks like white chocolate shards embedded in ???
Thanks so much. Love your articles in the Cypress Creek Mirror!

It is a whipped cream that he added touch of a liquor to… like Kahlua. Those are chocolate shavings. Forgive my delay in replying to you!!! :)
