A brand new study out of Israel suggests drinking wine can be good for your health…of course we’re all ears! A control group of 225 adults diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes (as well as those who exhibited high blood sugar levels) were monitored for a period of two years and the results are telling…
The study divided this group of adults (ages 40-75)Â into thirds and instructed all of the participants to practice healthy eating habits like that of the Mediterranean Diet. Next came the experiment. The first 1/3 of adults were asked to drink one glass of mineral water each night as part of their routine. The second 1/3, a glass of red wine each night. The final 1/3, a glass of white wine (same producer as the red) before bed.
Over the two year period, several blood tests were executed. The results of the study found a positive correlation between the wine drinkers versus those who abstained entirely. The 2/3 of participants who consumed one glass of wine daily showed a lower levels of the ‘bad’ cholesterol (LDL), higher levels of the ‘good’ cholesterol (HDL), in addition to improved cardiovascular markers when compared!
Both the red and white drinkers also showed improvement in blood sugar controls – very important for diabetics! So, not to jump to conclusions just yet BUT this could be great news for casual wine drinkers and diabetics alike.
The key with any indulgence is moderation and please do consult your doctor before any diet changes. 🙂
