Most of us are starting the New Year off with intention – a will and strong desire to eat healthier and lose weight. I’ve spent years interviewing health experts, and one thing that they agree on is that protein is key. In addition to all its nutritious attributes, it is a metabolism stabilizer. The more protein I eat, the less hungry I am throughout the day and I have more energy. One of my go-to protein choices is fish.
So, why not cash in on healthy choices for high quality seafood from the experts who supply HALF of Texas! Goodtaste caught up with the man in charge of Groomers Seafood, Rick Groomer, to find out the types of fish to “reel in” this New Year. Not all fish are created equally…
Red Snapper
When it comes to fresh fish, the colder the better. Cold water fish such as wild salmon, sardines, farm raised oysters and halibut are higher in Omega-3’s than warmer water offerings like red snapper or flounder. All, however, are great sources of protein for your diet.
Sardines
Indeed, sustainable seafood is where the industry is headed. All of the products that Groomers supplies come with a certification that confirms the fish as eco-friendly. And the standards are strict! There’s a great deal of detail that goes into finding a fish that meets a certain criteria to get it into specialty grocers like Whole Foods (of whom Groomers supplies).
Hear just what to look for when choosing your own fresh catch to take home and enjoy. Catch my chat with Rick in the video above. He also lets us in on the few fish to stay away from…at least for the time being. 😉
