One of the best food and wine events in H-Town happens in a few weeks, and its sponsor is one of the best restaurants in Uptown. The incredible event is An Evening of Hope Wine Extravaganza that benefits Tony’s Prostate Cancer Research Organization on Saturday, September 19. Masraff’s plays host to this gala because its owners, Tony and Russell Masraff, have a very personal reason to find a cure. Wine fans, this wine-centric gala is unlike any I’ve been to before—I never miss it.
A little background–this dynamic duo has spearheaded this cause ever since Tony himself was diagnosed with prostate cancer over a decade ago. Shortly after, in 2002, he founded Tony’s Prostate Cancer Research (TPCR), his non-profit that spends all the proceeds to fund research for a cure…research that’s happening right here in Houston.
And now, they think they have found a cure! In fact, human trials start in the spring, a HUGE accomplishment. I met with Dr. Timothy Thompson at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, and he said he’s never seen anything this promising. While prostate cancer is known to be handed down from generation to generation, these scientists have managed to isolate a protein we all produce and have used it to cure prostate cancer in rats. Essentially, this “GLIPR1” protein is finding the cancer cells in the rats, binding to the proteins that cause the cancer and eliminating the cells! Just incredible!
You can see more of the dramatic story here…
The Wine Extravaganza, their wonderful event, features more than 90 wineries from around the world, incredible food from Masraff’s and a live and silent auction. There are some wonderful wines available in the auction, as well as beautiful jewelry and valuable sports memorabilia up for grabs.
The event is September 19, 2015 at The Wynden at 1025 S. Post Oak Lane. For ticket info on this AMAZING Evening of Hope – Wine Extravaganza at http://tpcr.org or you can call Masraff’s at 713-355-1975.
More information can be found on Tony’s foundation website at: tpcr.org. Tony is also a prostate patient advocate at MD Anderson, and has made himself personally available to anyone who calls. His cell phone number is included at the end of our video, and can also be found on the website listed above.

I would like to ask ~ do you ever need volunteers for these events. I live in The Woodlands, am TABC certified and can travel anywhere in and near the Houston area. Let me know via email. Thanks and have a blessed day!
