One of my very favorite wine varietals is also one of the most misunderstood… rosés! Classic rosé wines are dry and crisp…not sweet. They’re also generally VERY inexpensive, plus a low alcohol content makes them a perfect summer ‘porch’ wine. And here’s a fun fact: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie make one of the best rosés on the market right now…
The selection we showcased on We are Austin this week come from all different regions of the globe – Italy and Spain to France, South Africa and our own ‘backyard’ in California. Each has a distinguished flavor profile and style due to the type of grapes used.
Italy’s Grignolino d’Asti rosé is a great branch wine to start exploring rosés as a whole. There’s more tannin structure present here…a little more backbone to it that red fans will appreciate.
The Spanish Muga rosé is made from Granache and Tempranillo grapes. The Miraval out of the south of France is truly an outstanding rosé. This is the aforementioned ‘Brangelina’ rosé ($23) made from one of top producers in all of Provence and available at most H-E-B’s! 🙂
Bliss is a family owned vineyard out of Mendocino County, California. They’re rosé is done with Merlot. You’ll taste the strawberry/red berry flavors on this guy.
Our last pick, Mulderbosch, comes from South Africa – a fresh, aromatic Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé. Find it right now in stores for only about $10…
