It’s the type of neighborhood Italian restaurant that lives up to lofty expectations. Casual, cozy, classy – where the food remains traditional yet imaginative, the ingredients in-season and always locally sourced. Eat well and be one of the family at Gusto’s Italian Kitchen.
The inviting menu ranges from house-made antipasti to hand-formed pizzas, salads, entrees featuring Texas farm raised meats and scratch desserts. A long list of Italian wines, wines from around the world, craft cocktails and the like make the bar an integral part of the business. What really sets Gusto’s apart is their brunch, Sundays from 10am – 3pm.
Brunch is buffet style and boasts an impressive array of seasonal antipastas. Healthy and organic offerings like the cucumber & farro salad, Gusto’s caprese salad with pesto, or fresh squash, shaved razor thin, and tossed lightly in olive oil with goat cheese and pine nuts.
The entrees do not disappoint. Take their famous French Toast with house-made strawberry butter and peach marmalade. The presentation is spot on! A heartier choice may be their sautéed shrimp and creamy polenta (shrimp & grits) – breakfast perfection.
Save room for dessert as well…their flourless chocolate torte with whipped cream sure comes to mind. For under $17 per person, we venture to say this may be one of the best brunch deals we’ve come across in Austin!
With brunch we like this Enza Rosé from the northern region of Italy. It’s a crisp, dry rosé that pairs beautifully with a variety of breakfast fare.
