A BIG congratulations goes to Executive Chef/Owner Denise Mazal of the Little Gretel Restaurant in Boerne. Chef Denise was just awarded the Best Businesswoman of the Year for 2014 by The Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce. Way to go Denise!
Here she’s pictured accepting the award from City Manager Ron Bowman. Denise is a powerful, resilient woman who had a vision for Little Gretel that began over 30 years ago…
When she first opened her shop, Denise offered knitting and needlepoint classes and sold yarn. Through hard work and determination (plus previous experience in the restaurant industry), her long-time dream of owning a restaurant that would depict Boerne’s heritage came true when she opened Little Gretel.
Chef Denise was recently nominated as a member of Best Chefs America, – the only woman awarded that recognition in the San Antonio area. She was also featured in an article titled, “Lone Star Kolaches,” published in Cook’s Country, where her kolaches were praised as the best and most traditional:
During her travels back to her native Czech Republic, Denise was awarded the Honorary Certificate of Nobility for preparing and serving food to the heads of state, popes and other nobility. She’s one decorated lady!
