Atlanta is definitely a city that knows its way around kitchen! You’ll find southern charm met with serious chefs that know how to put together a unique menu.
Deep in the heart of an area of the city called Buckhead, you’ll find Stillhouse Craft Burgers & Moonshine. Their name says it all. It’s a great place to stop in and get a craft burger (not your typical patty sandwiched between two pieces of bread) and Moonshine.
This is a burger heaven for anyone daring to try new flavors and eat their burger upside down! The burgers use locally sourced ingredients and toppings that are truly one of a kind. This is not a place for amateur burger lovers. You must be all hands in for these burger gems.
When you walk in, the restaurant greets you with a Speakeasy feel. The materials used to create the bar, walls and boothes use natural woods and slates. There’s even a hint of industrial texturing too.
Before you begin diving into appetizers and burgers, cocktails need to come first. You’ll find every Moonshine that’s available in Georgia inside the stills at the bar. Here’s a quick Moonshine lesson, if you’re new to the Moonshine movement:
-Moonshine is a young, white whiskey made from corn in a metal still
-It’s 100-120 proof, but the burn isn’t overpowering
-Most Moonshines are from the southeast
A unique spin on classic bourbon is to get your bourbon smoked. Yes, that’s right! You pick the wood you’d like to have smoke-infused into the bourbon and it’s smoked right in front of you at the bar.
After the smoke infusion is completed, the bourbon is served immediately.
You can really taste the specialty flavor of the wood. It’s the only way to enjoy a glass of bourbon in the south.
The Grapefruit Cosmo is a refreshing way to enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail. Even the orange peel is torched as part of the cocktail presentation. This drink is really a work of art.
The real cocktail star is the Southern Bramble. This is one of those drinks you must try when visiting Stillhouse. It’s a twist on the classic Bramble. It’s made with Platinum Moonshine, fresh lime juice and Creme de Mure.
This drink makes you wish you were soaking up the sun on a beach. You can really taste the fresh lime.
Let’s move on to appetizers!
This is a mandate in the south. Everyone must have Fried Green Tomatoes (feature image above) at least once when visiting the peach state. The FGT is a generous portion of breaded tomatoes served up with a house made roumelade dipping sauce.
They’re blackened, dusted and flash fried. This dish is more than enough to split with your party.
The Mussel Moonshine are a must. The PEI mussels are steamed in Troy & Sons Platinum Moonshine and you can really taste it. The Moonshine really compliments the mussels and doesn’t overpower the flavor of the dish.
It’s time to move on to the real stars of the evening, the burgers. Don’t let the petite size of the burgers fool you. They pack a hardy punch of satisfaction. The sweet potato buns are served upside down for presentation and piled high with unique concepts that are more like a built in sauce and topping.
First up is the Buckhead Burger. It’s named after the area where these clever burger creations reside. Two beef patties, duck confit, goat cheese, green tomato relish, pickled beets and fresh spinach are all nestled inside this burger.
Flip your bun over and dig in. You might never think of pairing these flavors together, but trust us, they work well together. This burger is worth every bite.
Next is the PB&J Burger. Don’t let the name fool you. Two beef patties, Georgia peanut butter hummus, fig jam, fresh sliced peaches, blue cheese and pecans all stake a claim inside this burger. That’s a mouthful of flavor.
The textures and dill-meet-sweet tones come together in a way that can’t be described. It’s a burger to order and split with the table.
Aside from fries, the collard greens are side they’re known for in-house. The desserts are also made in-house and they serve up quite a variety.
You can find Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding on the menu along with a Flourless Chocolate Cake that’s decadence in every bite.
The dessert that caught our eye though, was the Chocolate Marble Cheese S’more. It’s made of chocolate marble cheesecake, graham cracker crumbs, toasted marshmallow meringue, Valrhona chocolate and Nutella. That’s one heavenly dessert!
We recommend putting this spot on your must-eat places when visiting Atlanta. There’s only one word to describe it…delicious!
