Start out 2014 the right way – with quality wine for under $15! Some incredible new vintages are in the mix at H-E-B…90+ rated wines that won’t put a dent in your pocketbook.
Try something brand new this new year like The Franc – that’s a Cabernet Franc (cousin of the Sauvignon) that’s lighter in tanin and more aromatic. It’s a fruit forward wine that’s juicy and made for pairing with a great big steak!
Two whites to consider: the Souther’n Right Sauvignon Blanc out of South Africa and Broadbent’s Grüner Veltliner (GV). Both are crisp, steely and excellent with food. The GV especially is surprisingly full-bodied (almost like a Chardonnay)…a dream to see on any restaurant wine list.
The final two red wines we previewed are each under $10! The Niel Santofimia from Spain – earthy, spicy and made from 100% Grenache. And the Tilia, made from the Bonarda grape. The latter is a Pinot Noir clone that’s light, delicate and dried-fruit driven. A savory selection that can’t be beat from H-E-B Bunker Hill!
