This is THE destination for any sweet tooth…Choco Patisserie. Owners Lauren and Lynn Townsend have impressive backgrounds as classically trained chefs. They decided to open their own cupcakery two years ago. Soon after, The Food Network came calling for Cupcake Wars and that put their local shop on the national map.
There’s one cupcake that captures the flavor of the holiday season that’s unique to Choco Patisserie. Goodtaste recently stopped by to see how their Mexican Hot Chocolate cupcake is made and what a treat, we have their top secret recipe. Here’s a look:
If you’re near the Alamo Heights area, then you’ll want to stop by the Bird Bakery. It has some Hollywood notoriety, thanks to the power couple who own it. Model and journalist Elizabeth Chambers and her husband, actor Armie Hammer, are the proprietors here. You’ll find fun flavor combos here like their Elvis cupcake that combines banana cake with chocolate chips and then is filled with chocolate and topped with peanut butter buttercream frosting. Yum!
If you happen to be near downtown, there’s a stop you’ll need to put on your cupcake tasting tour. Kate’s Frosting is a boutique cupcakery that whips up gourmet flavors like Pink Champagne, Chocolate Covered Strawberry and their signature cupcake, Ruby Slipper, that even comes complete with a sugar-dipped cherry. They bake up minis or regular cupcakes and are known for their cupcake happy hour many weekday afternoons.
This year, skip the pies and bunt cakes and opt for cupcakes. They’ll impress your guests and are the perfect way to say “happy holidays” in more flavors than you can count! For more delicious recipes and fun food and wine pairing ideas, subscribe to my newsletter.
