Being a huge fan of Food and Wine magazine, I’ve always seen a lot of promotion over the years for the giant event they sponsor each year in Aspen officially known as the Food and Wine Aspen Classic. Each year that I planned to go, something always changed our travel plans. This year it finally happened…we made it to Aspen for the big extravaganza! I’m already looking forward to next year.
The setting is spectacular… talk about eye candy! You’re smack-dab in the middle of charming Aspen with its sapphire blue sky and glorious mountains all around. Plus, the big food ‘stars’ come out for this one – folks like Mario Batali, Giada, Emeril and more.
Some very impressive wine experts show as well. Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson did a wonderful seminar on Alsace wines, Sommelier Anthony Giglio (one of Food & Wine’s wine aficionados) hosted a couple of great gatherings too.
Vintners like Jacques Lardiere, Louis Jadot’s legendary wine maker, and Allegra Antinori from the esteemed Antinori wine family were among the many wine makers on hand each day pouring their wines for the throngs of enthusiasts to taste.
One of my favorite sessions was a Modern French Cuisine demo that was presented by Lexus…one of the event’s title sponsors. Chef Christopher Kostow prepared a braised veal dish that was not only delicious but also perfect for the summer weather. I’ve got the recipe here. Then, Sommelier Anthony Giglio conducted a very entertaining wine tasting. If you ever get a chance to hear this guy, you won’t be disappointed.
And, if your calendar permits, make plans now to attend next year’s Food and Wine Aspen Classic. In fact, I think I’ll do that right now! To see more from Aspen, head to my Facebook page. LIKE us while you’re there
