With so many incredible restaurants, it’s a cinch to get a great meal in Houston. What is challenging is finding the time to visit them all! That’s why I love food and wine events that feature a lot of talented chefs all in one place. That way you get to sample dishes from multiple restaurants and target the spots where you want to dine.
The Woodlands Wine and Food Week June 4-10 is one of my favorites! One of the highlights of the event is the Wine Rendezvous and Chef’s Tasting on Saturday, June 9…many, many wonderful wines will be poured, plus the talented chefs compete for $5000 and the prestigious Waterford Crystal Chef of Chefs Award.
The Royal Chef, Darren McGrady, is the ‘star’ chef of the evening. Darren worked not only for the Queen but also for Princess Diana and her boys up until her untimely death. He’s a wonderfully talented chef and a delightful man. You’ll love hearing his stories about cooking for the Royals.
Darren and I have worked together a number of times, and I have some of the Royal Chef’s recipes on my website including Prince William’s delicious chocolate wedding cake. Just recently, I added the Royal Chef’s recipe for a Chocolate Perfection Pie. BTW, his cookbook Eating Royally is wonderful!
One of my favorite go-to spots in Houston is Latin Bites Cebiche and Pisco Bar on Woodway Drive (their new location). I’ve eaten there countless times and always look forward to going back for more. Their cebiches and sashimis are beautiful to behold and full of vibrant flavors. Executive Chef Roberto Castre, who will also be competing at the event on Saturday, shared his recipe for Pescado a lo Macho [shown above] on Goodtaste.tv.
And, Italian fans, there will be some great dishes at the event for you too. Tavola Bistro’s co-owner and Executive Chef Joshua Barber will be a contender. If you’ve dined at Tavola’s in Magnolia you know Chef Joshua’s dishes are from beloved family recipes handed down for generations. He shares his recipe for a delicious Lobster Fra Diavolo on Goodtaste.tv.
There will be about 50 chefs competing, so bring an appetite! Yours truly is the head judge that evening, so I’d love to see you there.
I’ve got more details on the event at Goodtaste.tv. You can buy tickets online, click here.
Also, while you’re on my website don’t forget to sign up for a chance to win an incredible Napa Getaway – two free tickets on Southwest Airlines, a suite for three nights at the Westin Verasa Hotel and dinner at Brix Restaurant. You can sign up here…
