‘New’ find for oyster lovers in Robb Walsh’s new book
I admit my love affair with oysters began out west…on a west coast vacation about ten years ago to be exact. It was a romantic getaway to start with, but throwing a few oysters into the mix didn’t hurt.
I grew up in Houston with Gulf oysters, and as a kid I just wasn’t enthralled. But, about a year ago I read Robb Walsh’s book ‘Sex, Death and Oysters,’ and my curiosity about our native mollusks grew. So, I was thrilled at a recent opportunity to take our cameras to an oyster and wine pairing at Oceanaire hosted by Robb Walsh and featuring several high profile wine makers whose wines we paired with the various types of oysters.
In Walsh’s new book ‘Texas Eats’ he talks at length about the re-discovery of some very old oyster beds in Galveston Bay. We actually got to taste a couple of them at the event.
The wines paired beautifully with the oysters. Here’s what we were drinking…
